  1. Another Nice Product!!
Bought this for my 2015 Duramax LML. Installation instructions found on the website and were pretty straight forward. Most things in the instructions applied to my application, one or two didnt. Trucks are going to vary some from year to year. I was going to install a FASS system but looking at their instructions you have to drop the fuel tank and "molest" the factory sending unit. Wasn't real thrilled about dropping the fuel tank and didn't like the "molesting" part either. I came across this and it requires dropping the tank. I figured dropping the tank HAS to happen either way, so I might as well install this and basically be done and not have to spend more time installing brackets, pump, etc like I would with the other brands. I had about 4 gallons of fuel left in my tank which made it easier and dropping the tank was pretty easy. BTW, I did all this without a hoist. I bought a Lisle wrench specifically for the removal of the sending unit ring. A MUST!! I drained our the rest of the fuel and looked in the tank for any debris or shiny metal particles indicating pump wear. The truck has 22k on the clock and has run about 1960 gallons of fuel thru it. Inside of the tank was so clean you could eat out of it. Before installing the PowerFlo I put them side by side to make sure the float arms were at the same level. The new one had to be slightly bent to exact match the oem unit. It fit right in the tank with no issues. Getting that ring back on was a challenge, but not because of the new unit. The wiring harness is made specifically for the bed length of the truck. Routing and install were pretty easy. If there was 6" of slack in that harness that was about it, which was nice also. Some other systems have so much left over you have to coil it up and stuff it in somewhere. This harness even looks like it came from the factory it matches so well. I did have an issue with the add a fuse pigtail that gets installed in the fuse block. It seems like the wire coming off the double fuse holder is going the wrong way, but I made it work.
Since I was installing this, I also decided to install the fuel primer bulb delete by Fleece. Installing the PowerFlo basically makes the OEM primer useless and you wont have to worry about the primer leaking either. When I installed the primer delete I installed a new OEM fuel filter, dry. To prime the system I turned the key to the on position and let the pump run for a couple of minutes. I turned it to start and it lit right off.
I'm used to a 99 Cummins rattle trap and an older FASS system I installed on that. I know FASS has made their pumps run much more quiet than the old ones but I haven't heard a new one in person for comparison. However, I will say the PowerFlo runs pretty darn quiet. Regardless if the tank is full or mostly empty you can barely hear it without the engine running. Fire the engine and you can't hear it at all.
There's many opinions out there as to how to give more life to the CP4 pump, fuel additives, lift pumps, better fuel filtration, etc... I do run an additive on every fill up and hopefully this pump will help a lot as well. Time will tell, but I like it so far and have peace of mind now.
